The Australian Koala Foundation was pleased to announce that Minister Tony Burke has listed the koala as a vulnerable species in Queensland, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.However they believe that koalas should be listed in every state and are rallying to protect them in Victoria and South Australia.

Happy Feet 2 auction for the Antarctic
6 DecWWF Australia is auctioning off two family passes to the premiere of Happy Feet 2 to raise money for the Antarctic and the Southern Ocean.
The family passes include a red carpet walk with Robin Williams and George Miller who were part of the sequel.
WWF is working in the Antarctic and the South to create marine parks to protect penguins, seals, whales and albatrosses against climate change.

Research on mass nesting may help sea turtles
9 NovA new study, published in the British Ecological Society‘s Journal of Animal Ecology, on the ‘arribada’ or mass nesting of the female olive ridley sea turtles, is the first to combine three different approaches – genetics, demography and behaviour. The results may help conserve the marine creatures in the future.
The study was led by Virginie Plot of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France.
The olive ridley is a relatively small sea turtle, reaching a carapace length of 58-81 cm and a weight of around 41 kg. Its light-green shell is mottled with darker green, and its forelimbs are broad. Continue reading
